    Title: Women in Global Health Webinar Series 3 - Intervention Development Research

    Speaker: Prof Cathy Zimmerman from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

This webinar, organized by CEBP and Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore, aims to address the question of how to develop interventions for complex social problems like human trafficking or child labor, as evidence suggests that there has been little investment in research and development (R&D) for these types of interventions. The discussion had addressed on identifying effective R&D methods to generate evidence for designing complex interventions for specific populations in particular contexts.

2. CEBP WEBINAR SERIES

    Title: Optimising HIV Research and Practice impact in Resource-Limited Settings

    No. of Participants: 112

    Speaker: Professor Dr Sten H Vermund, Professor Dr Frederick Altice, and Associate Professor Dr Sheela Shenoi from Yale School of Public Health

In collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERIA), this webinar focused on improving the effectiveness of HIV-related research and practice in areas with limited resources. The webinar discussed on identifying real-life solutions to end the HIV epidemic through implementation science, determine potential impact for clinical practitioners by facilitating behavior change through motivational interviewing; and talk about lesson learned and directions for future on community-based service delivery models to optimize HIV care.

    Title: Women in Global Health Webinar Series 4 - Motherhood on Ice: The Mating Gap and Why Women Freeze Their Eggs

    Speaker: Professor Marcia C. Inhorn from Yale University

In collaboration with Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore, this forth Women in Global Health series aimed to highlight the importance of anthropology in providing valuable insights into global health issues. Professor Marcia Inhorn presented her latest research, which involved conducting narrative interviews with over 150 women to explore the complexities of egg freezing. Through her findings, she shed light on how technology, race, religion, and culture influence assisted reproduction. This webinar provided a platform to delve into the various factors that shape health behaviors and the lived experiences of individuals regarding health conditions and inequalities.

4. CEBP WORKSHOP SERIES

    Title: Introduction to Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Speaker: Associate Professor Dr Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki from Universiti Malaya

The course aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform systematic reviews and meta-analysis effectively. The course spanned roughly six to seven hours of lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises that covered a comprehensive range of topics related to systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Key topic covered were formulating research questions, developing search strategies, assessing bias, and interpreting meta-analytical results.

    Title: Response to Gaming Disorder from China and the World Health Organization

The webinar focused on gaming disorder as a public health concern, highlighting the increasing number of individuals engaging in video gaming and the associated negative outcomes. The inclusion of gaming disorder in the eleventh revision of the International Classification of Disease (ICD-11) highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing the negative consequences of excessive video gaming. Dr. Long presented information on China’s and the World Health Organization’s responses to gaming disorder.

6. CEBP HYBRID LUNCH TALK

    Title: Improving Health Through Statistical Genomics

    Speaker: Associate Professor Dr Matthew McCall from University of Rochester Medical Centre, Pochester, New York

In collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERIA), this talk will be held in a hybrid format at the SPM Conference Room, allowing for both in-person and virtual participation via Zoom online. Dr. McCall, an expert in the field from the University of Rochester Medical Center, will discuss how statistical genomics can enhance our understanding of the genetic factors influencing human health.

In collaboration with the Research Training Unit, FOM, the EVIDENCE-BASED WEEK was held  on 11 until 14 July 2023. This was the week when various workshop on systematic review, R, Stata and Network Meta-analysis (NMA) were conducted.

    Title: "Because of His Sin, He Got HIV": Exploring Malaysian Physicians' Attitudes Toward Transgender and HIV+ Patients

    Speaker: Ryan Sutherland

In collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERIA), this talk was held in a hybrid format at the Public Health Studio, SPM allowing for both in-person and virtual participation via Zoom online. Ryan discussed regarding the Malaysian physicians’ attitudes toward transgender and HIV+ patients.

OCTOBER

10. CEBP HYBRID LUNCH TALK

    Title: Introduction to the New WHO TDR Strategy: Building Local Research Solutions to Improve Global Health 

    Speaker: Dr Anna Thorson from Unit Head of the TDR Research Capacity Strengthening, WHO

In conjunction with the UM Health: Academia Month & Research Carnival 2023, the TDR-RTC-WPR in collaboration with the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and CEBP has organised the launching ceremony of the ‘Learning Centre, Regional Training Centre in Western Pacific Region’ located at the Block J, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. The Learning Centre was officiated by Professor Dr April, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, UM at 1.30pm. After the launch, as part of the launch program, the CEBP with the collaboration from TDR-RTC-WPR has organised a Hybrid Talk which starts at 2.15pm. This talk was also projected live streamed through Youtube which was viewed at the TJ Danaraj Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya.

    Title: Beyond Evidence-Based Practice: Introduction to Implementation Science

This introductory workshop provided an insight into what implementation science is and briefly introduce a few frameworks commonly used in the field.

This course was held in hybrid mode. It introduced methods to perform systematic reviews and meta-analysis. This course covered methods for performing systematic reviews and meta-analysis, including formulating a research question, developing a search strategy, collecting data, assessing the risk of bias, and synthesizing the evidence both qualitatively and quantitatively.
